How to Setup Yealink SIP-T40G VoIP Phone

Using a VoIP compatible device such as the Yealink SIP-T40G allows for better quality VoIP connections.

The Yealink SIP-T40G is a feature-rich VoIP phone, supporting flexible and secure provisioning. The T40G features Gigabit Ethernet for rapid call handling, programmable keys, and high definition sound quality.

How to set up your Yealink VoIP phone with your Afrihost Pure VoIP Account.

Connect the hardware:

  • Assemble the phone as per the included user guide in the box.
  1. Attach the stand at the back of the device as desired.
  2. Connect up the handset into the port at the back of the device.
  • Connect the network cable into the internet port.
  • Connect the power adapter to the device and a plug point.

Once the network and power cable are connected, the unit will automatically begin the initialisation process.

Configure the phone:

There are two ways to configure the phone, via the internet web user interface or the phones user interface.

How to configure the Yealink phone using your internet browser

  • Press the ‘OK’ button on the Yealink VoIP phone to view the IP address of the VoIP phone.
  • Open your preferred web browser on your computer. (e.g.: Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari)
  • Enter the default IP address of the Yealink phone in the search bar eg:‘http://192.168.0.10’, and then press ‘Enter’ to search.
  • Enter the username (default: admin) and password (default: admin) on the login page and click ‘Login’.

Please note. Select the ‘Security’ tab to change the login password to something more secure.

You will need the VoIP credentials that you received via email from Afrihost after signup. (Username, Password and SIP Server details)

Once you have logged in, you will be presented with the status page, Select ‘Account’ from the top menu.

Configure the following parameters ONLY:

  • Line Active: Enable
  • Label: Line Name
  • Display Name: User Generated (Caller ID)
  • Register Name: VoIP username
  • User Name: VoIP username from Afrihost
  • Password: VoIP password from Afrihost
  • SIP Server 1 – Server Host: sip.afrihost.com
  • Transport: TCP

  • Select ‘Confirm’ at the bottom to save these settings.

Your VoIP phone is now ready to use.

How to configure the phone via the phone interface

On the phone itself, use the buttons under the display screen, alphanumeric keypad and arrow keys to navigate through the setup menu.

  • On the phone, press the soft-key button under ‘Menu’ when the phone is idle (not in use) to access the main menu.

  • Using the arrow keys, scroll down to ‘Settings’, press the ‘OK’ button to select this choice.

  • Using the arrow keys, scroll down to ‘Advanced Settings’ and press the ‘OK’ button to select this choice.

  • Using the alphanumeric keypad, enter the default password: adminand press the ‘OK’ button.

  • Select ‘Accounts’ by pressing ‘OK’ to configure this account with the Afrihost details.

  • Use the first ‘(Empty) Disabled’ account. Press the ‘OK’ button to select this account.

Configure the following parameters ONLY:

  • Active Line: Enabled

Use left and right arrow keys to set to enabled, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

  • Label: Account Name

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the name of the account that will display on the LCD screen, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

  • Display Name: Caller ID name.

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the name that will display when making a call, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

  • Register Name: VoIP username.

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the username provided, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

  • User Name: VoIP username

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the username provided, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

What is my User Name / Register Name? The user name and register name will start with a new 087 allocated VoIP number or a ported South African number that starts with 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05. Never a mobile number such as 083, 072 and 061, etc or 0800/0860 numbers.

  • Password: VoIP password

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the password provided, then press the ‘down’ arrow to get to the next settings screen.

  • SIP Server1: sip.afrihost.com

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the Afrihost VoIP SIP server details provided, then press the ‘Save’ button.

No more settings are required to be entered.

  • You will be notified that the settings are being saved and configured.

  • The account details you have just saved will show in account 1.

The account details will be saved on the device and be active.
